Company News

WEST CHESTER, OH, Sept. 12, 2018— Pope Consulting announced that Merlin G. Pope, III has joined Pope Consulting as Vice President of Business Development, bringing 14 years of experience as a corporate professional to the four-decades-old inclusion and diversity consulting firm.

“We are thrilled to have Merlin on board,” said President and Chief Engagement Officer, Samir Gupte. “He brings that essential, on-the-ground experience that goes beyond diversity. He shares our vision of the importance of not only diversity but also of inclusion for all members of an organization’s workforce.”

He joins Pope Consulting in the footsteps of his late father, Merlin G. Pope, Jr who founded the organization with Patricia C. Pope, the present CEO and Chief Creative Officer.

“We want to help companies maximize high-performance and achieve better business results,” said Merlin. He added that “companies can harness the immense power that comes from a diverse workforce by creating a culture that is intentionally inclusive – and we help make that possible.”

Increasing amounts of data are demonstrating that trust is key to creating and sustaining high-performing cultures.  Research from Steven Covey suggests that “teams and organizations that operate with high-trust significantly outperform teams and organizations with low-trust — this concept has been proven in multiple studies across various industries.”

“At Pope Consulting, we look at high-performance through the lens of diversity, and more importantly, inclusion.  We know that inclusive behaviors positively impact the degree of trust among people and that higher levels of engagement, innovation, and profitability will be some of the key business outcomes for companies that commit to the process,” said Merlin.

Pope Consulting launched under the name Behavioral Science Inc.,  in 1976, sparking the national conversation about how changing demographics impact the American workforce. They originally coined the term “diversity” in 1977 to refer to the changing demographics of the U.S. workforce. In 1983, they re-incorporated as Pope & Associates, Inc.  They have worked with over 250 of the Fortune 500 companies. In 2017, Samir Gupte was named as the President and Chief Engagement Officer and the company rebranded to Pope Consulting. This also signaled a move to new offices in West Chester, OH in 2018.
